Drug Uses
Proscar is a synthetic antiandrogen that is used as a treatment in benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in low doses and used for treating prostate cancer in high doses. It improves the symptoms of BPH like frequent and difficult urination and may reduce the chance of acute urinary retention.
Usage
Proscar is to be taken once a day with or without a meal. Alternatively, you may follow the instructions of your doctor.
Missed Dose
You should try and take your doses on time taking care not to miss any. But if you do miss a dose, then skip it and continue with your regular dose. But never take 2 doses at the same time.
Storage
Store it at room temperature in a tightly stored container.
Overdose
Seek medical attention immediately if you suspect an overdose.
More Information
If you are undergoing treatment with Proscar then you must undergo periodic checkups to test for possible development of prostate cancer.

Possible Side Effects
If you experience any of the following serious side effects, stop taking Proscar and seek emergency medical attention:
an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of your throat; swelling of your lips, tongue, or face; or hives);
a very irregular or fast heartbeat; or
confusion or unusual behavior.
Other, less serious side effects are more likely to occur. Continue to take Proscar and talk to your doctor if you experience
dizziness;
anxiety, irritability, or nervousness;
tremor (shaking);
headache; or
skin flushing. Side effects other than those listed here may also occur. Talk to your doctor about any side effect that seems unusual or that is especially bothersome.
More Information
Proscar is to be used only by the patient for whom it is prescribed. Do not share it with other people.
If your symptoms do not improve or if they become worse, check with your doctor.
